Outreach

Last year's Scholarship For a Better America Program was very successful, and the program is planned to continue in 2006. The following is information for the 2005 scholarship program.

In the past years, there have been numerous misconceptions as to what the Republican Party represents and supports. The most common misconception is that of "protecting our own kind" and disregarding the "common man." We have made it our mission to correct these misconceptions traditionally linked to the Republican Party. The creations of the Bruin Republicans Outreach Department was only the first step.

Since the beginning of the Fall Quarter 2004, the Outreach department, headed by Tamir Elghanayan and Sandra Ruiz, has been working diligently to promote Conservative values on High School campuses. We believe that through aiding high school students who do not have enough resources to attend college, we will rebuild the unjustly tarnished image of the Republican Party in society today. In efforts to promote conservative values on campuses that have traditionally been liberally biased due to "ethnic composition" we have started a scholarship program. Currently, we are working with Warren High School Republican Club. Though, the Bruin Republicans manages and sponsors this Scholarship Program, we are assisted by Warren High Republican Club students who distribute and collect the applications to the rest of the students. The scholarships are limited to the senior class and require a strong essay which will demonstrate their passions, goals, and what struggles the applicants have faced.

Though it is clear to all students in the school that this scholarship is sponsored by Bruin Republicans, we have opened this to all senior students from both sides of the political spectrum. We have done this intentionally in order to debunk the myth of not catering to the "common man." We hope that through scholarships like these, high school students will be more open to conservative ideas and genuinely take a second look at our great party
